Sandblasting has long been considered the best way to clean and prepare metal for coatings of almost any type, and powder coating is no different. Although we do use some sand for blasting we prefer to use garnet. Garnet is much harder and cuts much better than sand, so we are able to use a much finer grit leaving a smoother surface on the metal. The garnet does not have the silicosis danger that sand does which makes the blasting process much safer for employees. Although we will powder coat unclean metal on request (at customer risk) we much prefer to blast everything we powder coat.
